Orange Barrel Media Headquarters
Franklinton
Columbus, Ohio
With two wall-scapes that allow for ample advertising that is visible to more than 350,000 people per day, the headquarters to Orange Barrel Media has become what it does best: advertising on a large scale.
This project is so incredibly unique for it sits on the site of the former Arrow Concrete Mixing Plant. Prior to Orange Barrel transforming the site, it was seen as contaminated and an eye sore with its three abandoned silos for all those who had to drive past it along US-315. Now though, with its innovative design including those three original silos, Orange Barrel Media’s headquarters is comprised of a 30,000-sq.ft. building and an architecturally integrated triangular media tower. Towering 160 ft above grade are the three pylons, these providing the framework for the two sides of the media tower which can host 9,000-sq.ft. wallscapes while third side is comprised of solar panels which power much of the site. With a nod to the site’s past, the main design element used was concrete: concrete building frame, expressing the columns and slabs, and
concrete wallscape mural art support pylons creating a dynamic composition. The dramatic triangular shape of the formed concrete pylons are a result of carefully studied options. The office portion of the project is made up of a glass curtain wall structure allowing in ample light with interiors that feature reclaimed wood finishes and furnishings designed as an outgrowth of the existing of the existing concrete silos.
