This multiple phase project will transform Norton Children’s Hospital with the renovations and additions totaling more than 101,000 square feet. To help with all the remodeling, clear way-finding signs will be assigned to each floor to make the location unique and make visitors feel at ease. It will include a new 7,000 SF conference center on the 1st floor. The new conference center will open up space for a 24-bed medical and surgical unit, currently located on the 4th floor, to relocate to the 6th floor alongside the remodeled Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). In turn, the 4th floor will be renovated into the Jennifer Lawrence Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). 17 private rooms, including 3 neonatal rooms, will be dedicated to children recovering from heart procedures. This space will also offer a new family-centered gathering space so that they can stay close to their children. In the 3rd floor Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) renovations, 29 patient beds will be converted to private beds as well as visiting rooms for family. In addition, it will create new space for physician and nursing education. With the renovated NICU and new CICU and PICU, total critical care capacity will grow from only 26 beds to 38 beds and will position the hospital to care for sick children for a long time.
